In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with god in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness had not overcome it. John 1:1-5
As we begin this Advent season and move toward Christmas, we can’t help but notice the decorations that appear everywhere! Stores have had displays up since before October. As we travel through our neighborhoods, we see all kinds of decorations: Rudolph with his shining red nose, Frosty the Snowman, the Grinch, Wreaths, and sometimes even a Nativity Scene with Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus.
Of all the decorations that are displayed at Christmas time, I love the lights the most! Red, green, blue, yellow….all of them shining together is glorious, but then again the glow of all white lights…has a unique beauty too! I enjoy walking or driving around the neighborhoods and seeing all the lights that brighten up the dark nights. Sometimes I think the Christmas lights are brighter than the streetlights! Maybe it is because the Christmas lights symbolize the Light of the World that was born on that first Christmas morn in a stable. The stable may have been dark and dingy but the Light that was swaddled in the manger brightened up the whole world. Darkness would never again be more powerful than the Light that broke through in the form of a baby.
Jesus is the Light of the World and it is at Christmas that we celebrate His birth. As you travel through the towns enjoying the wonderful light displays, notice how much brighter the world is around them. Just imagine how much greater the glow will be when Jesus comes again! We may not be able to truly comprehend just how glorious that will be but we know and have faith that when He comes the darkness will be gone forever and Jesus will reign as the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace! (Isaiah 9:6)
May the Light of the World bring you hope, peace, joy and love now and forevermore.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
